    September start-up
    by P. Hembling - Friday, 8 July 2016, 2:56 PM

The school is now closed for summer break.  We will re-open on Monday, August 29th.

School starts for students on Tuesday, September 6th.  Students attend from 10:30 to 12:00 only, and begin in the gymnasium for our opening welcome assembly.  Class placements will occur at that time.

Kindergarten students do not attend according to the regular schedule with the other grades (and they need not attend the 10:30 assembly on September 6).  Instead, they begin attending part-time and follow a graduated/staggered entry schedule which will be shared with parents by mail-out from the school in the last week of August.  In the event of a postal service disruption, this information will be shared by email / synrevoice call-out instead.

The staff of Bert Edwards Science & Technology School wish our students and their families a safe and relaxing summer break.  September will be here before we know it, so get out there and enjoy the summer sunshine!

Bees of the Southern Interior and their floral relationships.

    Thursday July 14

    Lecture by Lincoln Best

Nearly 500 species of wild, native bees inhabit the diverse landscape of British Columbia's Southern Interior. All of them rely on floral resources directly or indirectly, and many have evolved specialized relationships with native wildflowers. For many their biology & ecological function remain unknown.

Bio:  Lincoln Best has surveyed pollinator diversity in western Canada for almost 15 years and produced new data for more than 600 species while discovering new species in Canada.  Lincoln studied Zoology and Ecology at the University of Guelph and conducted graduate research at York University on the geographical distribution and genetics of the bees of British Columbia. He has also led field teams through Central and South East Asia, observing native bees in more than 10 countries.  Lincoln is passionate about floral/ bee relationships, especially the visitors to rare and unusual flowering plants in the Southern Interior.

Thanks and have a good week
