    Hello Bert Edwards Families!

On Wednesday September 20th, we will be hosting a "Meet and Greet" morning welcome back to school session at our school. Bert Edwards families are invited to join us at the school from 8:30am until 9am and enjoy some fresh fruit and a coffee or tea. Parents and guardians are encouraged to have students show them around the school and classrooms, and meet the staff here at our school. Hope to see you all next Wednesday!

    One to One Volunteers needed
by Jennifer Boyle - Friday, 8 September 2017, 3:41 PM

Dear Parents, Grandparents, and community members,

Become a ONE TO ONE volunteer tutor and open the world of reading to a child!

BEST is looking for volunteer reading tutors.

Do you have one and a half hours a week during school hours to read one-on-one with young students?  The ONE TO ONE Children’s Literacy Program needs you. No experience is necessary, but you must have good English language skills.  We provide free training and ongoing support. We are looking for three more volunteers so we are able to support more students at BEST.

The ONE TO ONE Children’s Literacy Program gives students the opportunity to practice their reading skills with a caring, patient adult.  This one-on-one time increases their self confidence, their reading fluency and comprehension, and their chance of meeting with success at school and in life.

Tutors read with 3 students for 30 minutes each at a local elementary school once a week, either morning or afternoon, for 12 weeks. They develop a relationship with their students and see them grow as readers. What a rewarding volunteer experience!
