Hello friends of the BIG Little Science Centre,

The BIG Little Science Centre is extremely proud and excited to announce the Autumn 2015 Lecture Series. Continuing our very successful series of lectures, started two years ago, we have three amazing speakers this fall, with more to come in 2016. The first one is next Wednesday October 28: Fantastic Fungi: The Amazing World of Mushrooms, Dr. Gary Hunt

 

Everyone is invited to attend the FREE Lectures; they are intended for older children and adults. Refreshments will be served.

 

Each lecture will be at the BIG Little Science Centre, start at 7:00pm, with the doors opening at 6:30pm.

The Centre is wheelchair accessible.

Fantastic Fungi: The Amazing World of Mushrooms, Dr. Gary Hunt

Wednesday, October 28, 7:00pm

Mushrooms are incredible organisms. Learn about identification and edibility of common species. Discover cool properties such as; providing food for plants and animals, causing disease, and driving insects insane. Bring some mushrooms in for identification, too! Dr. Gary Hunt attended Oregon State University and holds a Ph.D. Degree in Botany with a specialization in mycology. Follow-up Mushroom Walk: Sunday, November 1 at McConnell Lake, 10:00 am

 

Internet Safety and Security for FamiliesClare Adams, TELUS WISE Ambassador

A one hour seminar engaging participants in a discussion about Internet and smartphone safety and security. Bring your questions! Clare will include information onwww.telus.com/wise; a secure website that provides users with ongoing access to great resources, articles and training around Internet / smartphone safety; security for their families.

Clare Adams is the Regional Market Manager for the TELUS Fibre build currently taking place in Kamloops. Clare volunteers her time to be a TELUS WISE program Ambassador.

 

Everything You Need to Know, You Can Learn Through Music! Don Bennett, Educator

We have all seen research-based material that shows how involvement in music is great for mental development. From the "Mozart Effect" to dozens of books, we can't escape this topic. I will present the argument that certain music activities may be the most important learning experiences we can have - for our intellectual, social, physical and emotional development.

Don Bennett is School District #73’s Fine Arts Coordinator, a Music Educator and accomplished Musician. He has been studying the influence of music on the brain.
